Since it’s a slow news week, we’re taking the opportunity to share this sad update.
After more than two years of rants, disagreements, diatribes, and inveighing against institutions of all kinds, the gates of hell are closing.
In our final episode, which will drop very soon, we’ll explain how we came to this decision. For now, suffice it to say that despite our recent gripes about not making enough money, it’s not about that. We simply feel it’s time to move on. As much fun as it is to obsess about the culture wars, we’re ready to obsess about new things. We’re not entirely sure what they are yet, but presumably, they won’t require having to hate-read New York Magazine every week. (At least Sarah won’t have to. Meghan will probably never give that up.)
In the meantime, please know how grateful we are to you, our listeners. Week after week, we marveled at your enthusiasm, intelligence, humor, and shameless simping. In moments when we asked ourselves, “why would anyone listen to this?” we needed only to turn to to the comment thread to get our (partial) answer. Considering there are 84 million podcasts to choose from, the fact that you regularly tuned into ours was humbling. By which we mean ego-inflating. So, thank you.
Once you’ve processed this loss, we encourage you to follow and support us individually if you’re so inclined. Here’s where you can go.
Paying subscribers to A Special Place In Hell who want to support Meghan will receive a 20% discount on a yearlong subscription to her Substack. She’ll send out a separate post about that soon.
With that, we bid a fond and fulsome farewell to A Special Place In Hell. If we’ve learned anything from this journey, it’s that each of us holds a little bit of hell inside of us. Treasure it always.
With love,
S&M
I'm not sure you made me feel less crazy, but you made me feel less alone in my craziness. Thanks for all the unhinged conversations.
Dear Sarah and Meghan, I have enjoyed A Special Place in Hell so much! This is such sad news. A Special Place was one of the four or five podcasts I listened to regularly. You have certainly made my weeks more interesting and thought-provoking over the last two years.
All the best to you both. I wish you continued success, happiness, and all the spiritual and intellectual fulfillment you could hope for.
